The Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 sets out a process of modernisation of the Scottish Planning system. A key strand of this is the replacement of Local Plans with new Local Development Plans.
The Local Development Plan will set out the strategy to guide future development of the city for a period of 5 years and provide broad indications of growth for up to 10 years in the future. The plan will also contain policies and proposals covering the principal land use issues within the City.
Dundee City Council has commenced work towards preparing the Local Development Plan which will in time replace the adopted Dundee Local Plan Review 2005. The timeframe for the plan preparation process including the intended approach to consultation is described in the Dundee City Development Plan Scheme (March 2010). This document is revised annually and provides the most up to date timetable for the preparation of the LDP. (The Development Plan Scheme can be viewed at www.dundeecity.gov.uk/localdevplan)
The main stage of the plan preparation process where there will be a focus on engaging all stakeholders will be through a formal public consultation on the Main Issues Report which is due to be published in Summer 2011. This current consultation exercise is not formally required by the new development planning system. However, it is considered that early engagement in the plan preparation process is important and will help to inform the preparation of the Main Issues Report
